Peter Stevenson brings 20 years of experience in the nonprofit cultural arena to his role as Executive Director of CMA (Civic Music Association). Previously Peter served as Director of Development at the Des Moines Symphony and Academy, where he oversaw significant annual fund growth and the successful completion of a capital campaign that raised over $10 million. A graduate of the University of Iowa with a master’s degree in art history, Peter is a former Fulbright scholar who has used his knowledge of art and culture to develop exhibitions and create interpretive programs at many leading institutions, including The Field Museum in Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. At SFMOMA, he managed adult public programs, including collaborative projects involving the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera. His interpretive specialties are handheld audio and multimedia tours, as well as Web sites dedicated to specific exhibitions and individuals. Projects Peter has managed have won many awards from the American Association of Museums and the National Association for Interpretation.
